How To Prepare for Waxing

Waxing can help keep your skin smooth and hairless for weeks, but some prep can help you achieve the best results. Here's a few tips to help you prepare:

Healthy Skin

Broken skin or inflammation needs to heal before you're ready to wax. Make sure the areas you want to treat are healthy. If you have moles or beauty marks, be sure to point them out to the skin care therapist so they can be protected before you begin.

Let it grow...but not too long

Two to three weeks growth (about an eighth to a quarter of an inch), is ideal for leg, underarm and bikini area. When hair is too short, the wax can't pick it up, and when it's too long it prevents the wax from adhering and causes more pain.

Light Exfoliation

Gently exfoliate your skin 1-2 days before waxing.  Skip harsh scrubs. A rough wash cloth is perfect but don't scrub too hard.

Moisturize Until the Day of

Moisturize well on the days leading up to your appointment but AVOID MOISTURIZING THE DAY OF your appointment.

Take a Retin-A Break

Certain medications can sensitize the skin to waxing. Discontinue retinol-based products for two weeks before waxing. Be sure to talk with your dermatologist before making any changes to your prescription medications.

Please inform us if you are using Retin-A, Acutane, or any other topical medication before waxing as this can affect your outcome.
